Initially, ovarian cancer cells are usually very sensitive to
chemotherapy. Unfortunately, at some point in time they lose
sensitivity and develop "chemo-resistance", making successful treatment
all but impossible.
Phenoxodiol, a synthetic variant of naturally occurring isoflavones
found in multiple plants, has demonstrated an ability to kill cancer
cells that are relatively resistant to standard chemotherapy drugs both
in laboratory studies and in early phase clinical trials.
It has also
been shown to restore the sensitivity of “chemo-resistant” cancer cells
to carboplatin in laboratory studies. This is important because
carboplatin is one of the main chemotherapy drugs used for ovarian
cancer treatment.
Currently, based on exciting early phase trial results, an
international Phase III randomized clinical trial is underway which
compares carboplatin with or without phenoxodiol in chemo-resistant
ovarian cancer. You can read more about it to see if you qualify and to
