Can thermography help breast cancer screening? Proponents suggest that it is a valuable new tool for the earliest known detection, individualized risk assessment,
under age 40 screening, and perhaps a significant role in breast cancer
prevention.
Although unusual, 15% of all breast cancers occur in women between 20 and 44 years of age. These cancers can be more aggressive and there are no universal guidelines about the use of more sensitive detection methods in this age group. Proposed guidelines, not universally accepted, are: Initial infrared scan by age 20, every three years between 20-30 years of age, and every year over age 30.
This video clip briefly reviews the state of the art.
