| terminal | This is a broad and sometimes misused medical term meaning "heading on an unalterable path to death". From that point of view, we are all terminal. It is sometimes used in an acute seting when an irreversible failure of a critical organ system develops. People who are living with their cancer, even though the cancer may not be curable, are not necessarily terminal. |
