| metastasis | Pronounced "ma tas ta sis", this is a term which means that a cancer has spread beyond the organ it started in. The cancer has then metastasized. For example, a cancer that originated in the uterus which is found in the liver is not a liver cancer, but is metastatic uterine cancer. Some types of cancer rarely metastasize while others are known to do this very early. |
